Townsville University Hospital deploys Dell PowerStore 5000T and Dell PowerScale storage solutions from US technology company Dell Technology to deliver near-real-time reports to help hospital staff improve patient outcomes and keep up-to-date made the information accessible.

Townsville University Hospital (TUH) is the tertiary referral hospital of Townsville Hospital and Health Services (HHS), supporting 250,000 people in Northern Queensland, including isolated Indigenous communities.

Previously, TUH relied on older technology. The dashboards used on the wards had short reload times and required patient records to be found and manually updated, making it time consuming to obtain accurate medical histories.

The hospital then sought a vendor to revamp the system. The company chose storage solutions from Dell Technologies for their performance, redundancy, scalability, and flexibility.

Storage solution
TUH implemented Dell PowerStore as a single storage platform to provide block-based storage and a data lake to support mixed workloads running in the hospital.

Leveraging this system, the hospital has seen growth in clinical media from pathology, microbiology, cardiology, and sleep research.

Dell PowerScale leverages a highly available, cost-effective architecture to provide a single repository for unstructured data.

TUH said Dell PowerStore and PowerScale are essential for delivering healthcare in local locations while navigating an ever-changing digital landscape.

Improving healthcare
Barry Koch, Director of Information Technology Services Digital Health at Townsville HHS, said Dell Technologies’ solutions are integral to the hospital’s digital transformation.

“Dell Technologies has delivered health-centric collaboration solutions in complex environments to support the digital journey of patients, clinicians and staff. It’s essential for digital transformation,” said Koch.

ANZ Angela Fox, senior vice president and managing director of Dell Technologies, said TUH’s implementation for Dell looks promising.

“What is interesting is that these solutions are scalable and the results are reproducible. We are proud to make world-class healthcare accessible wherever you are.”
