Sense, a real-time smart energy monitoring technology designed to help Asia-Pacific countries achieve net-zero emissions, is being demonstrated for the first time in the region this month at the ENLIT Asia conference.

Held in Bangkok in September, Enlit Asia showcases the expertise, innovative solutions and visions of industry leaders, including Michael Jary, International Managing Director of Sense.

Earlier this year, Jary announced that within 12 months it would establish a Sense operation in Australia to incorporate the technology into its next generation of smart energy meters.

ENLIT Asia attendees experienced the first live demonstration of a Sense application that uses artificial intelligence and high-resolution waveform data to provide unique insights at grid edges. Conference attendees saw a live demonstration of turning appliances on and off and how much energy each individual appliance was currently using.

Sense apps run on the next generation of AI-enabled smart meters, turning them into intelligent grid edge devices. With AI for smart meters, Sense gives energy providers:

Also during the conference, Michael Jary spoke in a Knowledge Hub session about how artificial intelligence at the grid edge can unlock domestic flexibility for energy providers, transform the customer experience and drive loyalty.

The key to this transformation is the combination of AI and data. Most smart meters today upload data in 15-minute intervals, which cannot support a real-time consumer experience.

Sense load decomposition samples power thousands of times per second and uses high-resolution waveform data analysis to track device activity in your home and diagnose various device and grid failure modes.

When Sense intelligence is integrated into smart home devices such as EV chargers, air conditioning units and water heaters, it can further reduce carbon footprint and trigger automation to support demand flexibility programs.

With an unprecedented level of engagement compared to most utility apps and websites, the Sense app has demonstrated energy savings potential of an average of 8% annually in utility pilot programs and is involved Users can save up to 25%.

The potential for peak demand management is even greater. In a joint project with OhmConnect, Sense users reduced their home energy usage during an event by 18%, saving 160% compared to users in the same program without Sense.
