The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has announced a collaboration with e-learning platform TimesPro to create an educational program centered around Web 3 technologies.

The first collaboration of its kind will enable thousands of Indians to learn the fundamentals of distributed ledger technology (DLT), non-fungible tokens, the metaverse and digital assets. Indian Blockchain Alliance (IBA) and iHub Divyasampark are contributing partners to the course, according to information gathered by local daily Hans India.

Anish Srikrishna, CEO of TimesPro, said: “We have worked with leading IITs, academia and industry to deliver new-age upskilling programs. The Web 3.0 initiative is a continuation of our efforts.”

At the end of the course, participants will be issued a certificate demonstrating their expertise from various IITs including Delhi, Rookee, and Ropar. Course participants can study at their own pace, subject to availability and ability.

Srikrishna said the lesson goes a step further to provide learners with one-on-one mentorships with industry leaders and advocates, including writing resumes and conducting interview processes. Srikrishna added that a Web 3 Center of Excellence will be created to serve as a networking and learning platform.

TimePro’s collaboration with industry players could bring various benefits to the Indian cryptocurrency ecosystem. The move could create a healthy talent pool that can be hired by both local and international digital asset firms without the need for expatriates. On the attendee side, these courses arm them with world-class training and may act as a gateway to the nascent Web 3 industry.

Changing the landscape of virtual assets

Experts believe there is a series of innovations underway in India that could trigger a wave of interest in digital assets. These innovators are driven by the need to position India as a regional powerhouse as the world moves inexorably towards a digital future.

The FICCI-EYs 2022 report notes that Web 3 could add up to $1.1 trillion to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2023. The report says that Metaverse in particular will cause GDP to grow rapidly, and virtual worlds will have more than 50 million users by 2025.

To compete globally, the India Blockchain Alliance and India Blockchain Forum were created by enthusiasts who “represent companies and business professionals participating in the digital economy through blockchain technology”.
