FLSmidth said it was selected to supply over-the-counter conveyors (OLC) to a large established copper-gold mine in Southeast Asia after placing a large-scale equipment order from the same customer and site in early 2022.
The pit-to-plant transport system, which is over 5km long, uses gearless drive technology. The order, which includes design and supply, is booked for the September quarter 2022 and is valued at approximately DKK 330 million ($44 million).
The conveyor order follows an announcement in the March 2022 quarter, in which FLSmidth was selected to supply two gearless SAG mills, two gearless ball mills and a thickener technology to the same site. This new FLSmidth land conveyor delivers ore from the pit to the process plant’s new FLSmidth SAG and ball mill.
Part of the newly acquired tk Mining portfolio, the transport system is expected to significantly reduce operating costs due to gearless drive technology. This results in lower energy usage, less maintenance during operation, and higher availability.
Mikko Keto, Group CEO of FLSmidth said: This is proof that FLSmidth is the world leader in land conveyor and gearless drive technology. Customers benefit from full flow sheet coverage. We are also proud to have provided most of the equipment for this mine site expansion. ”
The order supports FLSmidth’s MissionZero ambition to enable customers to mine in a more sustainable manner, the company said. Onshore conveyors greatly reduce the need for diesel-powered trucks at mine sites, making material transport cost-effective and resource-efficient.
