Archer Materials will access GlobalFoundries facilities and manufacturing processes to identify a path to mass production of 12CQ chip devices and components.

Archer Materials (ASX: AXE) has partnered with GlobalFoundries to 12CQ quantum chip (12CQ chip) technology.

Described as the world’s leading semiconductor foundry, GlobalFoundries provides Archer with “expertise, equipment and manufacturing processes” for its further development. 12CQ chip qubit technology.

Commenting on the agreement with GlobalFoundries, Archer CEO Dr. Mohammad Choucair said it will now be able to leverage GlobalFoundries’ capabilities to “accelerate the development” of the technology.

Archer’s goal is to confirm that qubit materials are suitable for industrial-scale semiconductor nanofabrication and to incorporate them into mobile-enabled devices.

Dr. Choucair pointed out that current quantum computing qubit components rely on custom fabrication. This can be compared to traditional computing circuits manufactured in established industrial semiconductor facilities.

He added that integrating qubit materials with industrial-scale foundries is a “significant challenge” in the development of quantum processors.

Archer is the only ASX listed company and one of the few in the world developing qubit processor technology.

Nanofabrication of biochip devices

The deal with GlobalFoundries follows last week’s news that Archer has achieved its long-term goal of manufacturing biochip device components sized less than 10 nanometers (nm).

Archer started its nanofabrication process in April 2021 with the aim of developing sub-10nm biochip functionality.

The company now “reproducibly and reliably” manufactures sub-10nm features by developing several advanced lithography processes on silicon wafers in a cleanroom environment.
