Muscat – The Ministry of Education (MoE) has launched a contest to support awareness of nuclear science and technology in secondary and higher education.

It is called the 2022/2023 Nuclear Science and Technology Educational Competition for Students and Secondary Teachers and is within the framework of an IAEA Technical Cooperation Project.

Nuclear Science and Technology (NST) not only contributes directly to nine of the UN’s 17 SDGs, but also plays an important role in achieving several UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially in health and environment. increase.

The competition is open to students and secondary education teachers from United Nations member countries/territories in the Asia-Pacific region.

The competition is in line with the IAEA’s NUclear TECHnology for Controlling Plastic Pollution (NUTEC Plastics) initiative to tackle the global problem of plastic pollution, with a moderate focus on how the NST views its role in contributing to the UN’s SDGs. It is intended to encourage creative thinking in educational level students.

The competition, which is also open to post-secondary students, demonstrates how forging new partnerships and leveraging diverse funding sources can maximize the scope, impact and sustainability of IAEA initiatives.

Post-secondary students submit business proposals to potential partners or donors to partner on one of the IAEA’s strategic initiatives. A secondary-level teacher is encouraged to creatively introduce her NST to non-science students.

Timeline and selection process

October 21: Submission Deadline (11:59pm CET)

December 5th: IAEA Notification to Finalists

January 24th to February 10th, 2023: Finalist submissions will be showcased at the 2023 Virtual NST Education Exhibition. A winner will be chosen during a live Q&A with the finalists.

Fall 2023: Winners will be invited to the 2023 NST Education Study Tour.

Only one submission is allowed per applicant. Once an entry has been submitted, entrants cannot amend it.

Videos must be submitted by applicants acting in their personal capacity and not representing any organization, business, or government agency.

All submissions must be original works in the applicant’s own words.
